We made the 700 mile mark a couple days ago. Feels good to have made it so far. My brother-in-law asked a great question yesterday. He asked me how many miles in did we feel like we were in this thing for real, like really going to do this. Well, most of you know we hiked the first 400 miles from Harpers Ferry, WV to upstate NY. Then my cousin, the great John Taylor drove us to GA to begin the second phase of our hike at the southern end of the AT, Springer Mtn, GA.
To answer my brother-in-law's question, the whole time we were hiking the 400 miles in the middle states we kinda felt like we were just out for a little hike. It never felt like we were in for the long haul. But when we started hiking in GA we knew we were in the big leagues. Everybody around us was just like us, in it to win it. So the answer is: right now it's starting to sink in that we really are going to hike to Maine. It's starting to get fun.
Picture 3 is the best privy so far. Why bother to put a door on it. Once inside and seated you couldn't close it anyway.
Photos 5, 6, and 7 are on Max Patch, a very large grass field on top of a mountain. Lots of fun there.
Next to last picture is the snack of choice with lunch or dinner. Eat as many chips as you want. No limit.
Last picture is one of my favorite chores, gathering firewood. Best Wife and I love tenting with a fire close by.
